Award winning Master Chef of Great Britain and one of the judges for Junior MasterChef, Grant Hawthorne will be the celebrity guest of honour at the 2012 Chilli Fiesta which will be held at the Mansion House at Shuttleworth to celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday 17th June. Grant will join the team of chilli experts in the Chilli Kitchen, and demonstrate how chillies can add an authentic South African flavour to a range of special dishes.
The Chilli Fiesta was the brainchild of Joann Plumb, Bedfordshire’s own award winning chilli expert and the Mansion House’s Kathy Birch. First held in 2011 the Chilli Fiesta was an instant success, attracting chilli aficionados from all over the UK and has already established the Mansion House Chilli Fiesta as one of the leading events in the Chilli world. This year the event is sponsored by Bedford Times and Citizen and Biggleswade Chronicle, and has attracted over 70 exhibits including fresh chillies and plants, chilli sauces and relishes from the mildly tangy to the explosively hot as well as a wide range of unusual chilli flavoured foods and even chilli beer!
For the culinary fans, Grant will be joined by Raj Mandal, Director of the National Indian Junior Culinary team and Edible Ornamental’s Joanna Plumb in the Chilli Kitchen, while the more green-fingered can pick the brains of the cultivation experts in the Gardening Academy and discover how easy it is to grow even the most exotic chillies.
While the chilli theme will attract the fiery Fathers, there are plenty of other attractions to keep the rest of the family entertained. The Craft Fair will appeal to mums, and there is a range of entertainments to keep the children amused including circus workshops, a funfair, bouncy castle, face painting and story tellers.
The Chilli Fiesta is open from 10.30am to 4.30pm and there are further details including reduced advance tickets at www.chillifiesta.org
